Last night I got a call from JJ to say he was in the area and would like to stop by. So this morning he and his son stopped by for a little visit. Great guy and it was really fun to talk guitars to someone that likes to talk guitars as well. (My wife, not so excited about talking guitars) Anyway, just thought I'd share that with you all. Great morning for me and so far EVERY person here that I've met I've truly enjoyed. thanks Paul |

Sounds like fun, Paul. I need to get out and meet some of the OLF brethren. Perhaps JJ and I could meet at John How's shop--who could bend our WF Bubinga for us? What a worthwhile trip that would be! Steve |

I've had the pleasure of JJ coming to my shop as well. He's a great guy who loves to talk about guitars;. Steve, I could bend it but you might not recognize it when I'm done. Actually this very weekend I am going to visit a long time friend and fellow musician (well he's a drummer) who is a metalworker and we are going to build a new side bending fixture that I hope will allow me to bend really figured wood into really tight cutaways, I'll keep ya posted. |

Well, it looks like I won't be able to make it after all...I can't get the following Monday off, so we can't make the trip. Bummer...I was really lookin' forward to seeing my ol' pal Bob and meeting JJ. Someday... |

Well...I must say, Paul's shop was the neatest, most organized shop I've seen so far. What a treat to meet another OLFer. And his lovely wife, Jen is just a sweetheart. Frank and I had a great time...many thanks for the fine hospitality, Paul. On the way back, Frank commented..."Dad, how can somebody so young know so much about guitar-building?" A truism if I ever heard one! And I also got a chance to see that famous mortise & tenon jig. Unfortunately,I didn't have my camera to get all the details. I'll just have to wait for those promised CAD drawings! After I bend that WFB I may just have to visit Nacogdoches to give some advice to the good Reverend! I now have it thicknessed and am nervously closer to big day  BTW, Steve, I may be in Dallas this winter for a golf trip. How far are you from Big D?
Next stop...my 2nd annual visit to the Zootman's candy store at Thanksgiving. Sorry about Don not being there...I was so looking forward to meeting the semi-retiree. But I'll take real good care of your Zoot, Don! BTW, Paul...What is the floor covering product that you use in your shop?...black, rubberized and very comfortable...and of course, spotless! Does it have a trade name and where can I but it? |

JJ--We're 3 hours from Dallas. If you come in December, or February, you could take in a LINT meeting. We would make you an honorary member, and who knows? Maybe talk Michael P into coming down, as well as John M. That would be great! John H--if you can get it into a guitar-like outline, I would be well pleased. Steve |

JJ, glad you two made it home safely. It was truly a pleasure to get to know you face to face. The door's always open here for you. The floor is horse stall matt. I bought it from a farm supply store. Pretty expensive but completely industuctible. I figure the money I saved on chisels being ruined by being dropped on the concrete made it worth every penny. I use stall mats in my shop also. I love it. After being on your feet all day, you really appreciate the cushion. It also is a great dampener for the vibration of power tools. Paul is right- It pays for itself with the first tool or two that you drop on it. Only downside is that it has a pretty strong odor for awhile. |
